It has been several years since the Maidstone Pumas last welcomed the South Wales Warriors to Kent. South Wales came to Aylesford Rugby Club ranked number 3 in the southern regional standings, having secured the South West conference title earlier in the week when Plymouth Admirals were unable to fulfil the final two fixtures of the season.
South Wales needed a win to maintain pressure upon Cambridgeshire Cats, who would lose the number rank if the Pumas scored more than 9 points or Watford Cheetahs did the same. More...
The Maidstone Pumas welcomed the arrival of the undefeated London Cobras to Aylesford Rugby Club. The Croydon based Cobras are ranked the Number 1 team in Division 2 having only conceded 9 points in the previous 7 games. This was an eagerly awaited match up to test the Pumas in what has been a good season for the mid Kent outfit.
The game started poorly for The Pumas as the first kick off was run back by Jeremy Reid, who was immediately tackled by 3 Cobras, one of which knocked the ball out of the grasp to cause a fumble. The Cobras struck two plays later as QB Jerome Allen found Emmanuel Mukoro in the end zone from 8 yards. Allen would go onto pass for 7 TD’s during the game. More...
On a pleasant summer’s day, The Maidstone Pumas travelled to Essex for the early kick off against conference rivals Essex Spartans. The Pumas had beaten Essex in the first game of the season, but expected a much tougher contest as Essex had recruited additional coaches, one who had been working with the Pumas.
Last weeks 16 heroesrsquo;s were boosted by the return of running back James Cherry, Defensive Back, Jeremy Reid and Defensive lineman Charlie Flynn. It was 20 players who warmed up prior to the game. More...
On what turned out to be a pretty miserable day weather and game wise, Maidstone Pumas travelled to leafy Watford, for the first of their two ‘out of conference’ games.
Watford Cheetahs is the new name of the old Chiltern club, who had changed their name in the previous off season to reflect the move to Watford.
Prior to the game, despite the efforts of the Pumas management, only 16 players showed up. The Pumas are injury ridden at the moment, with the latest casualty being wide receiver Richard Dowling, who had broken a bone in his left hand. More...
On a lovely summer’s day at Aylesford Rugby Club, the Maidstone Pumas welcomed the return of local rivals East Kent Mavericks. The Mavericks had won the first game 27 – 12 earlier in the season.
Mavericks won the toss and decided to take the ball. Wide Receiver John Zinkus fielded the ball and got behind a wedge of players and returned the ball 85 yards for a touchdown. This was followed shortly by Alastair Jenkins and Michael Welch tackling running back James Cherry in the end zone for a safety.
Despite this early set back, The Pumas fought back and started to move the ball and played pretty decent defence. However, The Mavericks struck when rookie running back, Edem Goka ran in from 7yards. Goka in his first ever game, went onto score on a further 4 occasions, earning a BAFL rookie of the week nomination, for 5 touchdowns and over 220 yards. More...
On a lovely summer’s day at Aylesford Rugby Club, the Maidstone Pumas returned to their home ground to welcome the Colchester Gladiators.
The Pumas on the back of last weekend’s defeat to the local rivals, East Kent Mavericks, were confident of putting up a good showing against a team who two seasons ago won promotion to Division 1, only to drop down last season.
The first quarter was dominated by defence, with the only bright spark coming from Pumas QB John Bowden pass to Anthony Malyan for the longest reception of the season so far 42 yards. A Colchester run for touch down was called back for a technical infringement, which led to a scoreless quarter. More...
